#205 | The One Skill I'd Never Outsource to AI

Shownotes

In this episode, I share what I believe we're quietly giving up when we let technology do all the thinking for us.

This conversation was inspired by my own creative process, the launch of my brand new Substack column The Sunday Edit, and an episode by Athena Calderone.

It's not an episode against AI. It's an invitation to think differently about the role it should play.

00:00:00: This is gonna sound very controversial to a lot of you, but bear with me.

00:00:05: Stick with me till the end okay?

00:00:07: So what I've noticed in the last few weeks is that one of the most powerful skills... ...you could possibly have in twenty-twenty six....is the skill of writing!

00:00:22: Not just short posts.

00:00:25: no really write like essays books really good copy, be able to express yourself in words.

00:00:35: And I know your first thought is gonna be well.

00:00:38: why would i invest in that?

00:00:40: because it's ridiculous right?

00:00:42: Nicole come on!

00:00:43: We live in times of chat GPT and Claude...and I could just make them write anything I want.

00:00:49: Well exactly And I see a huge problem there and i see a big problem for our society.

00:00:57: Yes, I would even take it that far because writing is something... It's..it does so much!

00:01:06: It has so many benefits and I want to take some time to dive into what writing can actually do for you?

00:01:13: What its done me in the past few weeks because I have been dot-dot-dot Writing.

00:01:20: I've been doing exactly that and i launched the Sunday edit, which is my new column That launches every sunday.

00:01:28: it's published every sundae as from now on And you'll find It On Substax if You want to join?

00:01:35: If You Want To Read My Articles.

00:01:37: If You Would Read My Essays You'Ll Find The Link In The Show Notes.

00:01:42: Just Stop With Your Finger Go There And You Will Get The Sunday Edit.

00:01:49: So, I've been experimenting with different formats and content in the last weeks.

00:01:56: And not all of them have found their way into my podcast or you know...my spaces.

00:02:03: but i've been experimenting myself like behind-the-scenes..and I really get to realize that writing is so powerful!

00:02:13: If you're a long forwarded writer if you know me then you know, a love-hate relationship with writing for a long time.

00:02:23: So the first Love Hate Relationship With It started in two thousand and sixteen when I quit my corporate job.

00:02:32: i used to be a corporate girl working in marketing and big corporations And so into summer of or early twenty twenty sixteen...I quit!

00:02:42: ...and had this very romantic idea of launching a publishing company who or that would you know publish travel guides but not like regular travel guides, but very beautifully designed coffee table book styled travel guides for design avid travelers.

00:03:07: And so I did that and i remember thinking to myself well this is gonna be so great!I'm just going to be sitting at the beach or wherever with my laptop.

00:03:20: how beautiful, but it wasn't that.

00:03:24: It was hard!

00:03:25: It was like...it was crushing at times because I realized how hard is.

00:03:33: and just for the protocol?

00:03:35: Like i've always been good at languages..like i speak five languages.

00:03:40: Andi have alway's been very good reading & writing as a kid.

00:03:44: so....I'm a language

00:03:47: girl!!

00:03:47: I would call myself that but it was so hard.

00:03:51: And since I've wrote in German and i'm not a german native speaker, Since I grew up in Sweden... It was SO HARD!

00:04:00: Like..I really realized where I am still limited In my German vocabulary.

00:04:08: But yeah....but im not gonna dive into that.

00:04:10: So ever since then Ever since twenty sixteen I had this very ambiguous relationship with writing.

00:04:22: And there have been times when I loved it, There have been time's where i hated and everything in between.

00:04:30: but what I notice when do write regularly is that I become a better human That I became so much more creative I'm able to reflect myself in a so much better way, and it gives me so many benefits.

00:04:54: And... ...I think its SO tempting!

00:04:58: That's another aspect.

00:04:59: like i've been deep diving into AI for the last months.

00:05:04: Currently that is behind-the-scenes spoiler that im gonna talk about more on this Sunday edit In my new sub stack column.

00:05:13: So really hit subscribe in the show notes and you will know what I'm doing, but What i can say is?

00:05:19: I've been deep diving into AI And I'm setting up my business on a new AI operating system so that Is going to help me Really build My virtual team!

00:05:32: And...what Im not gonna do though..is what most people Do....I am NOT Gonna have That.

00:05:39: Oh...i Have A little fly In MY room getting rid of it.

00:05:43: I'm not going to just let it write all my content, no right!

00:05:50: I am gonna use for entirely different things as a system.

00:05:56: so systemization processes and ideas for sparing.

00:06:06: but what i don't want to deprive myself is the skill And I entered a social media profile yesterday where the woman said, like the women owning it said.

00:06:23: Well, I haven't written any salesmails myself for four years.

00:06:28: I don't even know how to do it anymore and I thought well...I'm sure that saved you a lot of time but i am also sure its depriving your skill in writing And I'm also sure it's depriving you of the skill, and that is so hard.

00:06:52: You know how hard it is to be able to sit down put away your phone focus on one thing... ...and really stick with it.. ..and really force yourself to structure your thoughts!

00:07:11: That is so incredibly hard And I think it's incredibly hard for a lot of reasons.

00:07:20: It is incredibly hard because we're not used to it anymore, We are used to consume things like very fast... Oh!

00:07:29: There was an Instagram post and there were some telegram messages and emails that were so distracted all the time.. ..and i don't know many people who can actually sit or write Without their phone without checking the email, without getting up a hundred of times but just sit and write.

00:07:55: And be able to follow a chain of thoughts Be able to structure them in way that another person can actually get something valuable out of it.

00:08:05: That is tremendous skill.

00:08:10: But what I do see in people who have this skill-and i can take one example because its on my best friends a very well-known author and publicist.

00:08:22: And I see what it does to his character, I can't see what is.

00:08:27: does him as human...to have this skill of sitting down writing articulating stuff structuring things being able to pour an idea from your mind and then bring it into life on paper, I think.

00:08:52: It's a beautiful skill!

00:08:56: And i think that does so many good things for you... If your looking at the channel of self-expression You might want to consider writing because what im doing with my substack channel is Of course Im going repurpose when im writing there.

00:09:18: So im not just gonna write cross-link, maybe take what I've written and make a podcast out of it or maybe just take something that i said on the podcast.

00:09:29: And then you know recycle it on there.

00:09:32: so it's not that you're just writing to write or just writing too... You have one isolated channel!

00:09:39: It can cross pollinate a lot of things.

00:09:43: but i think its SO important that we don't lose that skill everywhere right now with AI.

00:09:53: Like I see people honestly like this bugs my mind.

00:09:57: really typing every email into chat GPT and then you know copying it from ChatGPT, sending it is like Jesus aren't even able to just write a single email with three sentences in it?

00:10:11: Come on!

00:10:13: And i think we're actually dumbing ourselves down.

00:10:17: I know that's controversial, but i'm able like... That's a hill im willing to die on.

00:10:25: Im convinced we're dumbing ourselves down by doing that and I think writing is such um.. It's gift!

00:10:33: it's the gift yourself?

00:10:36: Its'a gift your audience?

00:10:38: its'a gifts you brain?

00:10:40: Is'a gift of your self-development?

00:10:43: Is''a gift to your ability being able to argument in a manner that is actually structured and cohesive, and convincing.

00:10:56: It's a gift to be present!

00:11:00: Like when I wrote the first edition of The Sunday Edit... You have to be honest okay?

00:11:06: So every written it a lot of times.

00:11:10: i started on at a couple weeks ago And then I got so caught up in my head because So I was asking, okay what do they want to hear?

00:11:21: What's the perfect tone of voice.

00:11:24: What should it be about?

00:11:25: blah blah blah.

00:11:26: and then last Thursday when i was driving in my car...I listened to a podcast episode with Athena Calderon.

00:11:37: you might know her.

00:11:39: she is the founder of Icewoon which is very famous Instagram profile And she has like a polymath talented person who has, you know gone through very extraordinary career path of trying a lot of things.

00:11:54: And so on her podcast I'm gonna link it in the show notes.

00:11:57: actually she talks about what like...she talks about her journey and that resonated so much with me.

00:12:09: i felt so seen..I found myself in her.

00:12:14: I saw a lot of parallels.

00:12:16: It made me cry in my car, like.

00:12:17: i know it's cheesy but...it made me crying in the car.

00:12:22: and so when I came home that night..I thought well what do actually want this Sunday edit to be?

00:12:31: Do I wanted to be a converting newsletter?

00:12:33: No!

00:12:34: I don't wanna write to convert you ,i dont' wanna right to sell to you Like....I don't would do that But I DO wanna write To Activate You.

00:12:44: I do want a right to inspire you.

00:13:09: And I think everybody should do that.

00:13:52: face to discomfort that comes up inevitably, when you sit in front of a blank page and the cursor is just blinking.

00:14:00: You really don't know what to

00:14:01: say.".

00:14:04: And I'm so convinced it makes such... It's personal development truly.

00:14:11: Truly!

00:14:11: Honestly i honestly don't remember what i wanted to say but that doesn't matter because i don't cut this podcast-it has not been edited.

00:14:22: So im gonna leave like And I would love for you to visit me over on the Sunday edit at Substack.

00:14:31: So as i said, You'll find a link there and I'd love it if you could comment or engage with us!

00:14:46: Yeah, I think that was pretty much it.

00:14:51: It's so annoying when you don't know what to say!

00:15:02: Take this podcast and use it as an inspiration for writing your journal, essay or sub-stack just like me.

00:15:14: write a newsletter, write content.

00:15:18: Write a book, write a magazine right?

00:15:22: Right and do not use Claude to do it for you please!

00:15:27: And I want you to know i'm like...i am big AI enthusiast....I love

00:15:34: it!!

00:15:35: I educate myself every week on A.I..and think its incredible what can be done When you're writing, use it as a sparing partner.

00:15:47: So maybe one example before I go?

00:15:50: What i did is... all these things, because that is something I think you can use AI brilliantly for.

00:16:18: To just have some sparing before your dive into a new process... That's so valuable!

00:16:26: And actually it reduces friction Because when you think about it You usually don't start or the reason why you didn't start a project Is not usualy cause'you dont know what to do.

00:16:41: You know exactly what to do, and you maybe... Maybe you know what's right about.

00:16:48: But the thing stopping you is all of other stuff like okay so how often which platform?

00:16:55: How should I edit it?

00:16:58: Do i need a sub-stack or active campaign Or another platform?

00:17:04: When do I do it?

00:17:04: Like All these questions around It Are The Questions That Create Friction not the writing itself.

00:17:13: And yes, that can be hard too.

00:17:15: but for all these you know surrounding questions around a project I use AI for that...I do!

00:17:23: and i absolutely used AI for spellcheck because im not an english native speaker so that..i do But i never use it to write for me.

00:17:42: You of the beautiful, lovely sometimes tremendously hard skill of writing.

00:17:54: I hope...I inspired you!

00:17:57: I hope you feel like writing now and i hope that you really know what it can do for you And everybody who has a journal-like.. I wouldn't survive without my journals knows What It Can Do.

00:18:10: It is really, I think the strongest form of self-therapy there is.

00:18:16: Like I would be lost!

00:18:18: I wouldn't know myself without my journals... So this was a little rant on writing and i love for you to visit me on The Sunday Edit which was launched on Sunday twenty first June twenty twenty six and it's gonna non-coachy and it's none converting.

00:18:43: It's purely for inspiration, yes of course I will mention some offers in there but in a very non sales way.

00:18:56: so i think It's something different than you're used to receiving and I would love for you do give me some feedback on it.

00:19:04: I will love for You To listen to this podcast once again, I Would love For you to launch Something where?

00:19:10: your writing On Your Own.

00:19:13: And Thank You for listening to This Very Unstructured Episode and Hear You in the next one.
